Martin Kennedy Gullan (SN 4789), born in Ballarat, was a 36 year old labourer when he enlisted on November 11th 1915. Assigned to the 7th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Wiltshire on March 7th 1916. Transferred to the 5th Pioneer Battalion he reached France in June and was wounded on July 20th when he sustained a gunshot wound to his knee. He was evacuated to England, but he did not fully recover from his wound. He was returned to Australia aboard the Port Darwin and was discharged on April 22nd 1918 ‘medically unfit, knee wound’.
