Biography

Norman Leslie Anderson (SN 1172) born in Harrow, was a 20 year old clerk when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 18th 1914. He embarked aboard the Shropshire on October 20th and sailed to Egypt. He saw action at Gallipoli, serving with the 2nd Field Artillery 6th Battery until illness forced his evacuation in September 1915. In June 1916 he married Mildred Taylor at Wandsworth in England. In August 1917 he was transferred to the Australian Flying Corps as an air mechanic and served out the remainder of the war. He returned to Australia aboard the Naldera, disembarked at Melbourne on May 21st 1920 and was discharged on October 1st.

His brothers Hector, Thomas and Leslie also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
