Biography

Leslie Alexander Silver was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Driver when he enlisted with the 6th Battalion, 24th Reinforcement on 12 December 1916 at the age of 23. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on 19 February 1917. On 5 September 1917 he proceeded overseas from Southampton to France, marching into Havre. Two weeks later he was allotted as a reinforcement with the 21st Battalion. In August 1918 he was admitted to hospital as ill (unspecified) and re-joined his battalion on 7 September 1918 and returned to Australia 7 July 1919.
