Walter Henry Jarvie (SN 1936) born at Ballarat, was an 18 year old grocer when he enlisted in Ballarat on April 4th 1916. On June 5th he embarked aboard the Medic and sailed first to England before joining the 46th Infantry Battalion in France. In June 1916 he was found guilty of being absent without leave and escaping from confinement and sentenced to two years imprisonment. He only served about six weeks before the sentence was suspended and he rejoined his unit. In October 1918 he was again charged with being absent without leave and for masquerading as an American soldier. An imprisonment sentence was again suspended, and he was returned to Australia aboard the Euripides, disembarked on October 20th 1919 and was discharged on November 15th. He served again (SN V15728) in World War 2.
