Arthur Stallwood, a Londoner Bank Clerk, enlisted in the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps on 18 August 1914 at the age of 29. He was promoted to Sergeant with the 2nd Field Ambulance shortly before being sent to hospital with dysentery on 12 may 1916. He later transferred to the A.A. Pay Corps where he was promoted to Acting Warrant Officer. Unfortunately, his dysentery proved to be chronic, resulting in a medical discharge on 23 July 1918.
