Frederick William Clotz (SN 7464) was born in Ballarat and enlisted on July 13th 1917 at St Kilda, where he was employed as a butcher. He was 18 years old and single. He left Australia on board the Themistocles in August and, after some further training in England, crossed to France in April 1918 to serve with the 5th Battalion. On August 10th he was killed in action during the Battle of Amiens. He was just 18 years of age. His name is on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
