William Horton Angwin (SN 2777) born in Ballarat, was a 19 year old telegram postal assistant when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 3rd 1915. Assigned as a reinforcement for the 7th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Star of Victoria on September 10th bound for Egypt. During the voyage he developed abdominal pain and was dangerously ill. He underwent surgery for an intestinal obstruction. In Cairo he was still listed as dangerously ill and it was decided he should be returned to Australia. He returned aboard the Kanowna, disembarked at Melbourne on March 10th 1916 and was discharged ‘medically unfit, appendicitis’ on August 27th. He died in March 1923 aged just 26.
