William Horton Angwin was born in Ballarat and enlisted in the 7th Battalion, 9th Reinforcements on 3 July 1915 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A16 Star Of Victoria on 10 September 1915. During the voyage he developed abdominal pain and underwent surgery for appendicitis. On reaching Suez he was transferred to the Kanowna for return to Australia, and was discharged on August 27th 1916.
