Biography

Thomas McLaren Wilson (SN 11965) was born in Melbourne but educated at Linton and Humffray Street State Schools and Ballarat High School. He was a 21 year old postman when he enlisted in Ballarat on May 2nd 1916. He was drafted to the 26th Company, Australian Army Service Corps and embarked from Melbourne in early June. While serving as a motor driver in France he became ill and was evacuated to hospital in the UK where he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. He was being repatriated to Australia on the hospital ship Karoola when he died on August 13th 1917. He was buried at sea and his name is listed on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France
