Biography

Born in Ballarat, Austin Garnet Henderson was a single 18 year old messenger at the time of his enlistment in Melbourne, Victoria on the 23rd of February 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A54 Runic on the 20th of June 1916.
On the 7th of June 1917, Austin was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to his right thigh. He rejoined his unit on the 25th of July 1917.
Austin was taken on strength with the Australian Postal Corps on the 23rd of November 1917.
He returned to Australia on the 17th of July 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 11th of October 1919.
