Biography

Thomas George Fricker (SN 3034) born near Warragul , was a 20 year old postal official when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 21st 1915. Assigned to the 8th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Osterley on September 29th. Once in Egypt he was transferred to the 5th Battalion and moved to France in March 1916. In June he was wounded in action, suffering a wound to his scalp which saw him evacuated to hospital in England. Once recovered he was transferred to the Army Postal Corps based in England. At the war’s end he married Kathleen Talbot at Weymouth, England, on February 26th 1919. He returned to Australia aboard the Dunvegan Castle, disembarked at Melbourne on August 23rd 1919 and was discharged on October 24th.
