Biography

Osbert John Kerr (SN 4235), born in Ballarat, was a 30 year old carter from Blair Street when he enlisted on July 19th 1915. Initially assigned to the 14th Infantry Battalion, he embarked from Melbourne on board the Demosthenes in late December before being transferred to the 5th Field Butchery in March 1916 for service in France. He avoided battle wounds but was disciplined for making an improper remark to an NCO and was twice found guilty of being in a café during prohibited hours. After the war he departed England on March 28th 1919 aboard the Poona, disembarking at Melbourne on May 14th. He was discharged on July 6th 1919.
