Arthur Edmond Eyckens (SN 664) was born in Beaufort and attended the Beaufort State School. As an 18 year old labourer he enlisted in Ballarat on July 1st 1915 and embarked for overseas service aboard the Wandilla in November . He joined the 31st Infantry Battalion with whom he was serving when he was killed in action at Polygon Wood on the July 29th 1917. He has no known grave, and his name is recorded on Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. He was just 19 years of age.
