Biography

Stanley Victor Gordon Wallace was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a labourer when he enlisted with the 31st Battalion, C Company on 8 July 1915 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A62 Wandilla on 9 November 1915. He was wounded in action on 20 July 1916 with a gunshot wound to the arm and knee and was immediately invalided to England. He re-joined his unit on 16 January 1917 and returned to France where he received a promotion to Lance Sergeant in October, days before being wounded in action a 2nd time with a gunshot wound to the right leg and was again invalided to England. He returned to Australia on 8 April 1919.
