Biography

Lewis Baker (SN 14023) was a 22 year old labourer from Ballarat East at the time of his enlistment on July 12th 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps in Ballarat and then with the 10th Field Ambulance at Ascot Vale. He departed from Australia aboard the Borda on June 5th 1916 and, in September, joined the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station in France. His service record indicates he completed his service without significant incident, although he was Mentioned in Despatches by General Sir Douglas Haig for ‘conspicuous service’. He died in September 1969 at the age of 79.
