Biography

Howard Harris was born in Ballarat and was a Draper by trade when he enlisted in the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, 5th Reinforcement on 12 July 1915 at the age of 18. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Vic, on board RMS Orontes on 29 March 1916. He was initially attached to the 14th Field Ambulance but soon transferred to the 14th Field Company Engineers. On April 24th 1918 he was wounded in action when he was overcome by mustard gas and evacuated to England. He departed England in May 1919 on the Aeneas and disembarked at Melbourne on July 12th.
