James Gullan Dunstan (SN 1969) born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old upholsterer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 14th 1915. He trained with the Light horse before embarking for overseas service in January 1916. Once in Egypt he was assigned to the 8th Light Horse Regiment. During his service he was troubled by a skin disorder and by tonsilitis, but he avoided serious illness or injury. He returned home aboard the Malta, disembarked at Melbourne on August 7th 1919 and was discharged on October 20th. He served again in WW2 with service number V80604.
