Biography

James Daniel Hickey, a bookkeeper from Ballarat, enlisted in the 4th Light Horse Regiment on 18 August 1914 at the age of 34 as a Private. He received his first promotion to Sergeant Major on 28 September 1915 before receiving a commission and promotion to 2nd Lieutenant on 8 December 1915 and again to Lieutenant on 28 January 1916. He was discharged and returned to Australia on 9 August 1918.
