Biography

Cyril George Thomas was born in Ballarat and was a Cabinet Maker by trade when he enlisted in the 24th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement on 12 July 1915 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A69 Warilda on 8 February 1916. After his arrival in England he transferred to the 58th Battalion in France. On July 15th 1916 he was wounded in action, sustaining gunshot wounds to the arm, eyebrow and buttock. He was evacuated to England before being returned to Australia. He departed from England in February 1917 aboard the Benalla, and was discharged as æmedically unfit' in May 1917.
