Biography

William Robert Hunter (SN 1849) was born in Ballarat and attended the Mt. Pleasant State School. He was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted on March 27th 1916. He was posted to the 39th Infantry Battalion with which he embarked for overseas service on board the Orontes in August. He was wounded in action while serving in France in June 1917 and was evacuated to the UK, where he died on June 25th 1917 of 'septic meningitis'. He is buried in the Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey, UK
