Angus MacDonald (SN 456) born in Ballarat was a salesman, 20 years of age, when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 18th 1914. He embarked for active service aboard the Wiltshire on October 19th assigned to the 4th Light Horse Regiment. He had further training in Egypt before transferring to Gallipoli for the final month of that campaign. He moved to France in March 1916 transferred to the Cyclist Corps. In June 1916 he suffered the accidental fracture of a leg and was evacuated to hospital in England. His injury was such that the remainder of his service was in various roles in England. On November 30th 1918, soon after the signing of the Armistice, he married Frances Isaacs in London where he was discharged on March 22nd 1919.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Angus McDonald.
