James Arthur Geary (SN 8015) born in Melbourne, was a 19 year old joiner when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 7th 1915. He embarked aboard the Bakara on November 8th and in June 1916 he reached France to serve with the 18th Company Australian Army Service Corps. He came through the war without significant harm and returned to Australia aboard the Wyreema, disembarked at Melbourne on May 31st 1919 and was discharged on August 13th.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Arthur J. Geary.
