William Menzies Page, a Driver from Ballarat, enlisted in the 4th Light Horse Regiment on 18 August 1914 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A18 Wiltshire on 19 October 1914. He fought several bouts of illness in the first few years. He received a promotion to Corporal on 1 July 1917 before being hospitalised with malaria. He eventually received a medial discharge and returned to Australia on 12 July 1918.
