Biography

Born in Ballarat, William Marshall was a single 20 year old commercial traveller at the time of his enlistment on the 23rd of July 1915. His unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A71 Nestor on the 11th of October 1915.
On the 1st of June 1916, William was appointed Lance Corporal. On the 11th of July 1916 he was promoted to Corporal, and on the 13th of February 1917, William was promoted to Sergeant.
He was mentioned in despatches on the 11th of July 1919.
William returned to Australia on the 31st of May 1919, and was discharged due to demobilisation on the 25th of July 1919.
