Biography

Alexander John Anderson (SN 1076) was born at Mt. Egerton and attended the Morrisons Tableland State School. He was a 20 year old farmer when he enlisted on January 8th 1915. He trained with the Light Horse before embarking on the Persia on August 10th and joined the 4th Light Horse Regiment at Gallipoli in September. After Gallipoli, his unit saw action in Egypt and Palestine and he suffered a minor wound in November 1917. On April 12th 1919, five months after the signing of the Armistice, he became the last Ballarat man to be killed in action. He was 24 years of age and is buried in Hadra War Memorial Cemetery, Alexandria, Egypt
