Biography

James Chisholm (SN 4459) was born in Ballarat and attended the Humffray Street State School. As a 21-year-old labourer he enlisted on July 12th 1915 and trained with the 8th Battalion. He embarked aboard the Themistocles on January 28th 1916 and sailed to Egypt where he was transferred to the 58th Battalion before moving on to France in June. On May 12th 1917 he was seriously wounded near Bullecourt and evacuated to hospital in England but died of his wounds six days later on May 18th. He was 23 years of age and was buried at the Brighton Borough General Cemetery, UK. He is also remembered on the honour board of the Humffray Street State School.
