Biography

James Dorrington (SN 4173) born at Scarsdale, was a 23 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 22nd 1915. On December 29th he embarked aboard the Demosthenes bound for the battlefields to serve with the 14th Infantry Battalion. He joined his unit in France in June 1916. On April 11th 1917 he suffered a gunshot wound to his back and was evacuated to England. Once recovered he rejoined his unit in France in September but was evacuated again in November due to unspecified illness. He was then returned to Australia on the Gaika, reaching Melbourne on July 5th 1918. He was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on July 23rd 1918.
