Biography

Joseph John Pounder was born in Ballarat and was a Clerk when he enlisted in the 14th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement on 13 July 1915 at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 23 November 1915. During his tour in France he was wounded in action on 12 August 1916. He re-joined his unit from Wounded on 23 September and in November was promoted to Lance Corporal. In December of 1918 he was once again promoted to Sergeant, and completed his tour of duty without further incident, illness or injury, returning home to Australia on 7 April 1919.
