Biography

Alexander Malcolm Nicholson (SN 24396) born in Ballarat, was a 26 year old bank teller when he enlisted in New Zealand on April 4th 1916. He joined the 2nd Battalion Auckland Regiment and embarked aboard the Devon on September 25th. He served in France until May 1917 when illness forced his evacuation to hospital in England then his return to New Zealand. He was discharged medically unfit on February 1st 1918.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Alex M. Nicholson.
