Posted to the 6th Infantry Battalion he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Hororata on October 19th and sailed to Egypt. Once in Egypt he was disciplined on numerous occasions for offences mostly associated with drunkenness including breaking a plate glass door and refusing to return to camp.
