Clifford Henry Freeman (SN 8845) born in Melbourne, was a 20 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 14th 1915. He embarked aboard the Port Macquarie on November 16th and sailed to Egypt where he was hospitalised suffering from mumps. In April 1916 he sailed to France where he served as a driver with the 2nd Division Ammunition Column. His service was largely without major incident and at war’s end he returned to Australia aboard the Runic, disembarked at Melbourne on June 10th 1919 and was discharged on August 2nd.
