Biography

Leslie Coward (SN 4156) from Clayton Street, Ballarat, was born in Ballarat and attended the Golden Point State School. At the time of his enlistment in July 1915 he was a 21 year old cleaner. He was posted to the 14th Infantry Battalion and promoted to Lance Corporal during his service. He was seriously wounded in the fighting at Bullecourt on the April 11th 1917 and was admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance. He was transferred to the 49th Casualty Clearing Station where he died the following day. He is buried in the Achiet-le-Grand Cemetery, France. He was 22 years of age.
