Ernest James Martland was Regimental No. 803 in the 7th Infantry Battalion. He had been born in Hotham East, and was a 23 year old, unmarried clerk living in Bendigo when he enlisted on 18th August 1914. He died on 3rd September 1915 from wounds in the trenches at Gallipoli. He is buried in Chatby Military & War Memorial Cemetery, Alexandria, Egypt.
