William Claude Phillips was born in Scarsdale, but enlisted from South Melbourne on 2nd August 1915. He was a maker of chairs, 21 years old and single. He was appointed to 23rd Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 3910. During his service he was promoted Corporal. He was killed in action at Bullecourt on 3rd May 1917. His name in on Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
