Neil Mitchell (SN 3112) was born at Cardigan and educated at Ballarat College. He enlisted in Ballarat on July 23rd 1915. He was 21 years of age, unmarried and a farmer. He was drafted into the 8th Infantry Battalion and embarked in late September aboard the Osterley. Later he was promoted Corporal, and transferred to 58th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action in the fighting for Lihons on August 9th 1918. He is buried in the Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, France. He was 25 years of age.
