Biography

Frank Harding was born in Ballarat and was a Farmer by trade when he enlisted in the 31st Battalion, C Company on 14 July 1915 at the age of 39. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A62 Wandilla on 9 November 1915. In April 1916 he transferred from the 31st Battalion to the 5th Pioneer Battalion but it was a period of health complications. Through the early months of 1916 he was hospitalised several times as a consequence of pleurisy and pyrexia, but in late June he sailed from Alexandria to France. He was soon troubled again, now by myalgia, so it was determined he should return to Australia. He sailed home on the Barambah, disembarking at Melbourne in June 1917 where he was subsequently discharged as 'medically unfit – rheumatism'.
