Biography

Robert James Todd (SN 72) was born at Ballarat and educated at Invermay State School. He was a 25 year old carpenter when he enlisted at Broadmeadows on August 19th 1914. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion at the rank of Lance Corporal and embarked from Melbourne on board the Benalla in October. On April 25th 1915, he was wounded then reported missing during the landing at Anzac Cove. A Court of Inquiry in 1917 finally determined he had been killed at the Gallipoli Landing. In 1923 his remains were found and identified, and he is buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery at Gallipoli.
