Biography

John Lamb (SN 468) was born in Burrumbeet where he attended the local state school. He enlisted on 23rd September 1916. The 20 year old, unmarried farmer was posted to the 24th Machine Gun Company and embarked for active service from Melbourne a month later on board the Ulysses. He spent nearly a year training in England, before being posted to France in early September 1917. He was killed in action just three weeks later on September 29th 1917, near Polygon Wood. He has no known grave and his name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, Belgium.
