Biography

Born in Ballarat, John Rodney Matheson was a single 21 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment on the 9th of June 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A68 Anchises on the 26th of August 1915.
On the 15th of July 1916, John was wounded in action. On the 18th of July he was admitted to the 35th General Hospital in Calais, France with gunshot wounds to his left hand. John was transferred to England on the 24th of July and admitted to the 1st Southern General Hospital in Birmingham, England.
John returned to Australia on the 31st of March 1917, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 22nd of May 1917.
