Biography

James Quinlan (SN 273) born at Romsey, was a 19 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on August 21st 1914. Assigned to the 8th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Benalla on October 19th and sailed to Egypt. It was there he became ill and was returned to Australia aboard the Wiltshire, disembarked at Melbourne on September 25th 1915 and absented himself without leave on February 16th 1916. He was discharged ‘venereal disease’ on January 26th 1917.
