Francis Joseph Phillips was born in Ballarat and was a Confectioner by trade. He was a single gent and at the age of 26 enlisted at Ballarat and his Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A24 Benalla on 19 October 1914. He received a GSW to the arm on 14/5/15 and also a GSW to the thigh on 17/5/15. Admitted to hospital 17/5/15 and re embarked for duty on 12/7/15. Discharged due to being medically unfit. Returned to Australia 29 January 1916.Tree No. 123
