Biography

Alexander McRae (SN 4560) was born in Cardigan and attended the Windermere State School. He was 35 years old, married and a farm manager when he enlisted in Melbourne on September 4th 1915, having previously served in the Boer War. He was drafted to 46th Infantry Battalion and embarked for active service in January 1916 aboard the Themistocles . He was killed in action at Bullecourt on April 11th 1917, has no known grave, and his name is on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
