Biography

Thomas McCartney (SN 1387) born near Ballarat, was a 23 year old farmer when he enlisted at Ballarat on July 19th 1915 . He embarked aboard the Ceramic on November 23rd and sailed to Egypt. In June 1916 he moved to France and soon after arrival there he joined the 1st Anzac Corps Light Horse which was later renamed the 13th Light Horse Regiment. He completed his service and returned to Australia aboard the Nestor‘, disembarked at Melbourne on July 2nd 1919 and was discharged on August 24th.
