William Edward Mitchell enlisted in Ballarat, Victoria at the age of 29 on the 4th of October 1916. He had been born in Smeaton, Victoria was single, and was employed as a Labourer. He volunteered and was stationed with the 39th Battalion, 4th Reinforcement with the Regimental number 2414. He was Killed in Action on the 4th of August 1917. He has no known grave, but he is commemorated at the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium on Panel number 25. Tree number 1117.
