Edward Hawkins (SN 961) born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old clerk when he enlisted in Ballarat on December 8th 1914. He embarked aboard the Hororata on April 17th 1915 for service with the Anzac Signals Squadron in Egypt and the Middle East. Aside from some minor illness issues he came through the war unscathed although after hostilities ceased, he did go absent without leave for two weeks for which he was fined 5 days pay. He returned home aboard the Suevic, disembarked at Melbourne on September 10th 1919 and was discharged on October 10th.
