Biography

Hugh Fraser Gibson (SN 4200) was born in Penshurst but attended school in Ballarat at Dana Street State School. He was 23 years old, single and a blacksmith when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 5th 1915 . He sailed from Melbourne in late December to join the 6th Infantry Battalion in France.
He was killed in action near Albert, France, on August 20th 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
His brother Raymond served in the British army.
