Biography

Charles Alfred Reakes was born in Ballarat and was a Clerk by trade when he enlisted in the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade, Military District 3 and Military District 6 on 31 August 1914 at the age of 25. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board TRANSPORT A2 Geelong on 17 September 1914. On November 21st he came ashore at Gallipoli to join the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade. In May 1916 he disembarked in France and aside from a six month appointment in England, he served through until the final weeks of the war. He returned to Australia on the Devon, disembarking at Melbourne on November 23rd 1918.
