Max Elsworth Booth (SN 53) was a 27 year old clerk from Armstrong Street North in Ballarat when he enlisted on August 19th 1914. Two months later, on October 19th, he embarked from Melbourne on the Wiltshire, attached to the 2nd Field Ambulance with which he served at Gallipoli. While in Egypt, after the Gallipoli evacuation, he was disciplined for ‘whilst on duty, swimming without permission’. In late March 1916 he moved to France but was hospitalised in July suffering from a poisoned foot.
