Leslie Frank Stringer (SN 2036) born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted at Beaufort on January 23rd 1915. He embarked aboard the Hororata on April 17th and in June he joined the 6th Infantry Battalion at Gallipoli. During the August offensive he suffered a severe gunshot wound to his right foot that resulted in its amputation. Consequently, he was returned to Australia aboard the Ascanius and discharged on July 25th 1916 ‘medically unfit, wounded’. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V359143.
