Biography

William John Peacock was born in Ballarat and was a Carpenter by trade when he enlisted in the September 1916 Reinforcements on 8 July 1915 at the age of 18. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A71 Nestor on 2 October 1916. In June 1917 he joined the 3rd Australian Ammunition Sub-Park in France and served there until March 1918 when he was transferred to the 3rd Division Motor Transport Company. He came through the war without major physical injury or illness and returned to Australia on the Borda, disembarking at Melbourne on June 27th 1919.
