Biography

Joseph 'James' Randal Peady was born in Ballarat and was a Clerk when he enlisted in the Field Artillery Brigade 2, Reinforcement 13 as a Gunner on 24 July 1915 at the age of 21. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A19 Afric on 5 January 1916. According to his records he escaped any serious injury or illness until his discharge on 31 July 1919. During this year he was promoted to Lance Corporal and then to Corporal prior to returning to Australia 20 April 1919.
