Joseph (James) Randal Peady (SN 10369) born in Ballarat, was a 20 year old clerk when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 24th 1915. He embarked from Melbourne aboard the Afric on January 5th 1916 and in April he reached the battlefields of France where he served predominantly with the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade. It seems he was able to avoid injury or illness during his service, and he returned home aboard the Boonah, disembarked on June 8th 1919 and was discharged on July 31st.
His brother Herbert also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
